Designer by craft. Leader by experience. Maker at heart
Meet Andrew
Designer. Leader. Maker.
I’ve spent my career at the intersection of design, motion, technology, and craft, building teams, shaping product experiences, and occasionally opening After Effects because I still can’t resist making the thing myself.
I started with motion. I never really left it.
Motion taught me to think about more than how something looks. It taught me to think about time, behavior, emotion, and how an experience feels.
Over the years, that perspective has expanded from animation and motion design into product design, design systems, UX engineering, AI experiences, and eventually leading multidisciplinary teams at Microsoft.
Today, my role is much broader, but the way I think hasn't fundamentally changed. I'm interested in how all the pieces come together, design, engineering, storytelling, technology, and people, to create something greater than any one discipline could produce alone.
Big picture. Tiny details.
I lead multidisciplinary teams spanning motion, visual design, UX engineering, product management, and platform innovation, but I've never wanted leadership to mean stepping away from the work.
I love setting a creative vision, building teams, and helping talented people do their best work. I also love prototyping an interaction, working through an animation, experimenting with new technology, or obsessing over the few frames that make something finally feel right.
For me, leadership and craft aren't opposing ideas. The best work happens when you understand both.
When I'm not designing...
You'll probably find me mountain biking somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, cooking something unnecessarily elaborate, taking photographs, watching a movie I've already seen five times, or disappearing into the woods for a while.
I’m an animation nerd at heart, with a particular love for traditional 2D and the incredible craft behind every frame. I can happily disappear down a rabbit hole about movies, animation, or filmmaking, and my musical taste somehow makes perfect sense to me while jumping from classical to metal.
Outside is where I recharge. Put me on a mountain bike, a trail, or somewhere deep in the woods and I’m happy. Design is where my brain goes into overdrive; the mountains are where everything gets quiet.
Core Principles
Craft matters
Details aren't decoration. They're part of the experience.
Great teams are multidisciplinary
The most interesting work tends to happen at the edges between disciplines.
Don't Take It Too Seriously
Care deeply about the things that matter. Laugh at the rest. Life's too short to spend all of it being serious.
Motion has a purpose
It should create understanding, establish relationships, direct attention, or add just the right amount of personality.
Design + engineering belong together.
The distance between an idea and the people who build it should be as small as possible.
Stay curious
Keep learning, exploring, making, and asking questions. Getting older shouldn't mean getting less curious.
Touch grass
Step away from the screen and into the real world. Fresh air, open space, and a little perspective go a long way.
Prototype the idea
Sometimes the fastest way to explain something is simply to make it.
Be present
The best moments are usually the ones happening right now. Put the phone down, look around, and be there for them.
